TSCH 00 Richardson completed their State Cup preparations by participating in the Kansas Rush Crossroads Classic tournament this past weekend in Olathe Kansas at the historic Lone Elm Park. On Saturday morning the girls recorded a 5-1 win over the KC Fusion 00’s in the early morning game. Playing in ideal conditions (no wind and temps in the 50’s!!) , they raced into a 3-1 lead by half time with goals from Kathy Gasaway (2) and Livi Hicks. In the second half they continued to dominate play and were rewarded with 2 additional goals in the last 5 minutes from Haleigh Lockhead and Macy Lapham. That set the team up going into game 2 knowing that a win would secure a final slot on Sunday. In game 2 on Saturday afternoon they girls faced Omaha FC 00/99 and recorded a fine 1-0 win. Again in this game, the 00’s dominated possession but a fine display from the Omaha keeper kept the score at bay. Olivia Wells broke the deadlock with a well taken shot from the edge of the box to secure the victory. There were solid displays in both games on the Saturday from all of the squad and on Sunday the girls would face KC Rush Academy to decide the championship.
Overall it was a solid squad performance in all games that provided the tournament win. Coach Richardson was very pleased with having 4 good games so close to State cup and also in the manner in which the team has progressed in its character and in its style of play. Defensively, the group were very disciplined and only allowed 1 goal all weekend. The midfield units as well as the forwards all combined well and it was a joy to watch them play as well as they did.
The TSCH 00 Richardson girls have now gone 15-1-0 in all tournaments this season (Capitol City Cup 5-0) Sam Shannon (3-0) Lexus Cup (3 -1T) and now the Crossroad Classic (4-0). The team is well positioned as it enters its final weeks of preparation for State Cup and is keen to add to its 2013/2014 tournament record before the end of May.
