On Wednesday night, Tulsa SC recorded their second win of the season and home opener against the Texas Spurs, 2-0. The weather was perfect and over 700 fans filled the stands for Tulsa SC's WPSL 2021 Season Home Opener.
The local talent of Tulsa was on full display tonight as Reagan Whitlow (University of Tulsa Alum and Tulsa SC Alum) got the first goal of the night at the 13’ minute mark off the corner kick from Bri Amos (University of Oklahoma and Union High School Alum). Mia Darden (Tulsa University), got her 2nd goal in as many games at the 65th minute off a beautiful assist from Kylar Goins (Kansas State University and Tulsa SC Alum).
Right off the bat, Tulsa SC was controlling the game and forcing the action. At the 10’ minute mark Tulsa SC had their first shot on goal that went just wide. As the gmae went on, Tulsa SC had several shots on goal and controlled possession most of the 1st half. At halftime Coach Schwarz stated “Right now I am very pleased with the patience we are showing, we need continue to be patient and take advantage of our opportunities”. Tulsa SC was up 1-0 at the end of the first half.
As the second half got underway, each team had promising chances, but in the end Tulsa SC goalies Alexis Bach (Western Kentucky) and Peyton Pearson (Kansas State and Tulsa SC Alum) along with the stout defensive line anchored by Ashton Gordon (University of Pittsburgh and Tulsa SC Alum), got the clean sheet. After the game, Whitlow said “our teams athleticism & physical height gave us an advantage to get the first goal behind the net. That first goal before the half was a good building block to build upon on for the rest of the game”.
Inn the end, Tulsa SC walked away with a 2-0 win and 3 more points to add to the Red River Conference Table. Tulsa SC will face off next against OKC FC this Saturday in Oklahoma City at 7pm.
